Introduction
This guide provides New York State educators with clear, step-by-step instructions on how to renew their Provisional certificates using the TEACH system. It is designed to ensure you understand all renewal requirements and necessary documentation for a smooth certification process.
Eligibility for First Provisional Renewal – Pupil Personnel Services
Educators must meet all requirements for the Permanent certificate in the certificate title of the Provisional certificate except the education AND/OR experience requirements.
Eligibility for Second Provisional Renewal – Pupil Personnel Services
For the second Provisional Renewal, educators must meet all requirements for the Permanent certificate in the certificate title of the Provisional certificate except the education OR experience requirement. Applicants must have met either the education or experience requirement and have not met both requirements.
Important Information to Note
- Applications will not be accepted more than six months before the expiration of the certificate.
- Educators must apply and pay for the Provisional Renewal application through their TEACH account in order to have their attestation reviewed. - Educators must submit the Attestation Form found on our Provisional Renewal page to tcert@nysed.gov where they will attest that they have not met the education AND/OR experience requirements for the Permanent certificate.
